New Flyer Profile: Megan T.

Emily S., Member-at-Large
Happy Halloween!

MAL here again with another New Flyer Profile. This month we have Megan T. Megan has been a runner since High School, although not her favorite activity! “I went to a school where sports were really popular but I just wanted to be a cheerleader,” she says. She joined cross-country to be on a “real” team (her words!). She says that her coach would find it amusing if she knew that Megan ran the NYC marathon last year.

Welcome to the Flyers, Megan!
Megan is a Pediatrician and during medical school had a lab partner train her for the Turkey Trot. After that, she’s been hooked on running. Hard to believe, considering there was a huge blizzard two days prior to the race in Buffalo. Even by Buffalo’s standards, the blizzard was huge. It forced most people in the city to sleep over at their workplaces and most teachers spent the night at their schools with all their students. Despite tons of snow left on the ground, everyone dressed warmly and had fun.

Like many of us, she joined the Flyers to help train for a marathon. “I was able to run 16 miles training alone but the 20 milers were a little intimidating.” She’s been running with the Downtown Monday night group which has helped six miles fly by.

Kara Goucher
Her biggest running influence has been Kara Goucher. Megan met her at the mini 10K last summer in Central Park. “I don’t know how she manages to run so fast and then look so good in her post-race interviews."

Megan was traveling a lot last summer while training for New York. She would normally take some time off but knew she wouldn’t be ready for the marathon if she didn’t continue training. Because of that, she has a lot of great memories running in places she’d never been before and now makes a point of running on vacation.

A few quick facts about Megan:

Training Tip?

She has learned that recovery is quicker after long runs if she ices a lot after each run.

Family?

Four brothers and one sister who are all very supportive.

Other hobbies?

Watching sports (especially Buffalo teams and B.C. Football) and cooking.

Welcome Megan! - Emily S.
