Shoe4Africa 5K Race

Toby T
It seems like every single week there is a charity running race in New York City.... Well that was five years ago.  Now there are three or four races every weekend.  Ask the Flyers' Tim D who did a triple-decker last Sunday –– his last stop was at the T-Mobile Shoe4Africa 5K.

This race was originally a fundraiser for Africa, to raise money for ground breaking on a children's but then a big storm hit New York. Suddenly the hospital plans got put on hold. All attention needed to be shifted to the hurricane relief.

T-Mobile, a company that has never been involved in race sponsorship, came in to cover the race costs with the company's CEO offering any T-Mobile employee their money back if they beat him to the line!  While PepsiCo offered to feed all the hungry runners after they finished the race.  A large contingent of Flyers participated in the race, and enjoyed the raffle that followed, while Achilles athletes and guides came out in force, as well.

And the money rolled in  more than $75,000 – which will be used to buy gifts for the many children who have lost everything in three highlighted schools: one each in Staten Island, Red Hook and the Rockaways.
